Yesterday Grace walked all the way home from the playground. What is normally a 10 minute walk took about half an hour what with those little legs and of course stopping to pick butter cups. Both Briscoe and I had trouble finding a low enough gear to stay with her.

Seriously, what child prefers black olives over blueberries or cheese? I guess the real test would be putting some olives and chocolate down in front of her and see what happens.

Grace is starting to recognize letters. We have some plastic magnetic letters she likes to play with and we’ve been spelling names out for a while. Now when she sees a “G”, she picks it up and says “I found Gracie!” This morning she picked up two Ts brought them over, handed them to me and said “I found Tim… and here’s another one.”

Claire, Emily et al. are coming for a visit in a couple of weeks. Since Claire is in French immersion, I thought it would be cool if Grace could say “Bonjour” to Claire when she arrived. So yesterday over lunch I say to Grace, “Grace, can you say ‘Bonjour, Claire’?” And with pretty good pronunciation for a 22 month old, Grace says “Bonjour Claire!”. Then I say “Bonjour means hello in French… Can you say hello in French?” And, since Grace is my daughter, her reply was of course “Hello in French.”

Grace has become a pickle fiend. We’ve gone through half a jar of mini dills in the last week. Today at lunch I was trying to fish another one out of the bottom of the jar for her and I was having trouble. I’m not sure if Grace was reading my body language or if she was just getting impatient, but out of nowhere I hear an encouraging little “Keep trying, Daddy.”

Grace just ate a whole banana on her own. You wouldn’t believe how much she eats. Almost as much as the adults do! I’m still telling myself it takes a lot of food to build those brain cells.

Hoorah! Grace is now in the 5th percentile (i.e. actually on the chart) for both height and weight. Must be the blueberry/raspberry pancakes she is eating. She just polished off almost 4 adult sized pancakes!

“What’s that sound?” is Grace’s favorite phrase these days. She started off saying “What’s that loud?” which was cute. I’m not sure if she is just making conversation or what, because I know she knows what a bus (for example) sounds like, but she keeps asking. Lately I’ve been replying with “What do you think that sound is?”

Grace has taken to calling us “Daddy-O” and “Mommy-O”. We have no idea where she got the suffix. She’s even calling herself “Gracie-O” sometimes. Funny girl.
